50 Questions Every Muslim Should Ask Before Getting Married

February 28, 2026

Preparation is not distrust. Asking questions before marriage is not a lack of faith in the person or in Allah's plan. It is wisdom — the Sunnah of the camel and the rope: tie it properly, then trust. The Prophet ﷺ gave us extensive guidance on how to choose a spouse, what rights and obligations marriage creates, and how to approach this process with sincerity. What he did not leave us is permission to drift into marriage blind. The questions below are organised by theme. They are not an interrogation — they are a framework for genuine conversation. They are a map for a series of honest conversations. Some will be easy. Some will be difficult. The difficult ones are often the most important. Give each other the gift of honest answers — even when honesty is uncomfortable. A difficult conversation before marriage is far easier than a difficult marriage after it.
